  1. servant的基本意思是“仆人”“佣人”,主要指为雇主做家务的人,带有一定的受压迫的意味,引申还可指受政府雇用为社会公共事业服务的“雇员”“公务人员”,作此解时,常与介词of连用。
  2. public servant的意思是“公仆”, general servant指“杂役”。
