adj. (形容词)
  1. public用作形容词时,基本意思是“公众的”,指存在或出现在众人面前的,引申还可表示“公共的”“公用的”,往往指由中央或地方政府提供的为全社会服务的,在句中常用作定语,有时也可用作表语。
  2. public还可作“公开的”“当众的”解,指向众人公开或某事物众所周知。在句中常用作表语。
  3. public无比较级和最高级。
n. (名词)
  1. public用作名词时表示“公众,民众”,是集合名词,常与定冠词the连用,有时也可加不定冠词,但一般不指具体的人,没有复数形式,与之连用的谓语动词或代词依侧重点不同可用单数形式或复数形式(视为整体时谓语动词用单数形式,指某些群众时谓语动词用复数形式),但在美式英语中只能用单数形式。
