用法讲解

v. (动词)
  1. demand的基本意思是“要求做到”“要求得到”。作“要求做到”解时,指强硬地,断然地要求; 作“要求得到”解时,指要求得到某种应该得到、必须得到或强烈希望得到的东西。demand的语气较重,含有“理直气壮的,不容拒绝的,强求的,催促的”等意味。引申可表示“想要知道,查问,盘问,质问,询问”等意思。
  2. demand用作及物动词,作“要求”解时,其主语通常为人,宾语可以是名词、代词、带to的动词不定式或that从句; 作“需要”解时,其主语通常为事〔物〕,宾语一般是“时间”“耐心”等抽象名词; 作“查问”解时,可接名词、wh-从句,也可引出直接引语。demand用作不及物动词时常与介词for连用,表示“要求”。
  3. demand后用作宾语的that从句中谓语动词用虚拟语气,其中谓语动词用动词原形者,是美式英语用法,英式英语须加should。如主句谓语动词为一般现在时或将来时时,从句的谓语动词可与shall连用。demand不直接接表示人的词语作宾语,而须用from或of短语。
  4. demand可用于被动结构。以带to的动词不定式作宾语的主动句不可改为被动结构,表示被动意义时可使用不定式的被动式。

  1. demand用作名词时的基本意思是“要求(的行为)”和“需求(的物品〔事物〕)”,表示具体的“要求”“要求的东西”时是可数名词; 表示抽象的或笼统的“需求”时则是不可数名词,但有时可用“a+ adj. ”修饰。
  2. 在demand后由that引起的从句中,谓语动词须用虚拟式,即用动词原形(美国用法)或should加动词原形(英国用法)。
  3. demand接介词for表示“对物的需求”; 接介词on表示“对某人或某物提出的要求”; 接介词in表示“所需要的”,含有被动意义。

  2. 注意demand作为及物动词时，其后不跟介词for。

  3. demand后接that从句，从句应该要用虚拟时态，用should或shall。

    He makes the demand that he shall(should) leave the place immediately.
    可 省略shall(should)，但决不可用leaves或left。

  4. demand做动词时，不能把指被要求的人的词如him，her做宾语。

  5. demand有时可解释为“责问”，而且语气很重。

  • 这两个短语的共同意思是“要求,索要”。其区别是：
  • 1.用介词from时更强调from的宾语sb; 用介词of时更强调动词demand的宾语sth。
  • 2.在用法上, demand of后可接动词不定式,而demand from则不能。例如:
  • He demanded 1000 dollars from me.他向我索要了1000美元。
  • Every week he demanded ten yuan of his father for books.他每周向他父亲要10元钱买书。
  • He demanded of me to keep secret.他要求我保密。
    • demand, ask, beg, order, request, require
  • 这组词的共同含义是“请求”。其区别是：
  • 1.从语气上看, beg最弱,有“恳求”的意味,如ask后仍达不到愿望,就要进一步beg了。例如：
  • He begged me to excuse him.他乞求我原谅他。
  • request表示较客气,是有礼貌、谦虚地“请求”。例如：
  • Visitors are requested not to touch the exhibits.请观众不要抚摸展品。
  • ask的“请求”有时委婉,有时强烈。例如：

  • require语气较request强烈,但较demand缓和。例如：

  • 2.从目的上看,这组词都表示要求对方满足自己的某种愿望, ask希望对方能给予肯定的答复,而request则对能否得到肯定的答复把握不大。例如：
  • The meeting will take place at 8 o'clock. Your presence is requested.会议将于8时召开,敬请光临。
  • 3.从根据上说, demand一般指客观上必要,缺此不可,多来自权威方面。例如：
  • The work demands care and patience.这工作需要细心和耐心。
  • require则指基于事物内在原因提出的要求。例如：
  • His health requires that he go to bed earlier.他的健康状况要求他早睡。
  • 4.从感情色彩上看, beg含有浓厚的感情色彩,表示“一再要求”。例如：
  • The boy begged his mother not to punish him.那孩子要求他妈妈不要惩罚他。
  • demand含有“愤怒”“焦急”等义。例如：
  • The father demanded knowledge of what had occurred during his absence from home.父亲要求说明他不在家时究竟发生了什么事。
  • require则强调铁面无私。例如：
  • This requires great attention in our work.这一点我们在工作中要特别注意。
  • 5.从使用场合看, ask使用范围最广; order则多限于军队中或医生对病人。例如：
